GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) –

Authorities are investigating after a man was reportedly killed during a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning.

Gulfport Police said they received a report at 12:53 a.m. that an injured man was lying in the road near the 400 block of Live Oak Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old black man suffering from critical injuries. Authorities said the injuries appeared to be consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Officers have not yet located the vehicle or driver suspected of hitting the man. No description has been released for either at this time.
