VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) –

A two-year-old Vancleave boy died early Thursday morning after drowning in a pond on his grandparents’ property. Sheriff Mike Ezell said Bryant Chapman went missing Wednesday afternoon during a family gathering for the Fourth of July.

According to the boy’s grandmother, the family was swimming in the pond and went inside to eat lunch. Bryant was with them in the house, but they noticed a few minutes later he was missing and began looking for him.

The boy’s father found him in the pond unresponsive and pulled him out of the water. The grandmother gave him CPR until first responders arrived.

Bryant was taken to Singing River Hospital in Ocean Springs and later airlifted to Mobile Children’s Hospital. His death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the funeral and medical expenses associated with this tragedy. If you’d like to help, you can find more information here: https://www.gofundme.com/bryant039s-medical-amp-funeral?member=397548
