HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) – State and local authorities are trying to identify the remains of a person found in DeSoto National Forest on Christmas Day.
The remains were found by a hunter in Harrison County near the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail on Highway 49 in Saucier, said officials. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said he recovered the remains the next day, Dec. 26. The state crime lab has been contacted, said Hargrove, adding that the remains would be sent there for further investigation.
Hargrove did not say what condition the remains were in. More testing will have to be done to discover how long the person has been dead.
Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death.
